The federal civil-service exam's newer MCQ screening stage — cleared before your written papers even count.
CSS is FPSC’s annual exam recruiting officers into Pakistan’s federal civil service — occupational groups like the Pakistan Administrative Service, Police Service, Foreign Service, and Customs.
FPSC has added a screening stage ahead of the traditional written exam: the MPT, an "MCQ-based Preliminary Test." Candidates must clear the MPT before their written CSS papers are evaluated.
Testing cadence
FPSC runs the CSS competitive exam once a year, with the MPT screening stage held ahead of the written papers.

CSS and PMS are two separate exams
CSS is federal, run by FPSC. PMS is provincial, run separately by each province’s own Public Service Commission. Both have added a similar MCQ screening stage in recent years — but they are different exams administered by different bodies, and clearing one does not clear the other.
